Chicago Design Through the Decades
Art on theMART
June 11 – June 15 at 9:30 p.m. every night for NeoCon 2022
I am thrilled to be a part of Chicago Design Through the Decades, a century of design excellence in Chicago. This dazzling story is on view at Art on theMART nightly at 9:30pm starting Saturday, June 11th through Wednesday, June 15th. The Decades team has worked in conjunction with the Chicago Design Archive (CDA) to showcase a curated collection of amazing Chicago design history. “The Decades team has created a spectacular visual and sensory experience during NeoCon 2022,” said Parker.
Some of my favorite posters were integrated into the animation of “The Decades” film including: Frederic Goudy “The Titan of Type” — America’s designer of the shapes that dress our words. A Century of Progress Electrical Group Pavilion with its fabulous Art Deco facade sculpture by Alfonso Iannelli and the colorful imagery of Games On! Chicago’s Olympic Bid branding. “To see a 340 foot high Frederic Goudy or a runner from the Olympic series in motion will be something to behold,” said Parker.
Art on theMART is one of the great public art platforms on the globe — it is the largest permanent digital art projection on the planet, projecting contemporary artwork across the 2.5 acre river-facade of theMART. In September 2018, the launch of Art on theMART attracted over 32,000 people. “The people of Chicago should take a moment from their busy life to glimpse this fast-paced, breathtakingly beautiful interactive mural — visualized on a such a monumental scale,” said Parker.
A pop-up screening runs nightly June 11 – 15, 2022 during NeoCon 2022, the commercial interior design industry's annual exposition. The full exhibition run is November 18 – December 30, 2022 with an opening premiere on November 18, 2022 (so save the date!)
The project is best viewed on The Chicago Riverwalk between Wells and Lake Streets.
